I love the Superbowl! Sometimes I think it might be my favorite holiday. No gift giving, no decorating, no prep. Just football and food. What’s not to love? And this year, I don’t actually care who wins which makes the whole day even more fun. I’ve been known to get a little wound up about football. Shouting at the TV, victory dances….the sort of behavior that my kids find most embarrassing. This year, it’s just the joy of the game. No shrieking required.
This recipe is for my glazed nuts that I gifted to some friends and family at Christmas. They’re the same ones I used to get back in the door at my friend Jim’s house to take pictures of his home after Christmas. More about that fantastic house over here.
I wish I could keep them in the house but I can’t stop eating them. They’re easy and sooooo good.
1 pound of mixed nuts (sometimes I just use pecans, they’re my favorite)
1 egg white
1 tablespoon of water
1 cup of white sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees and grease a baking sheet (or do what I do and line the sheet with parchment for easy clean up).
Whip together the egg white and water until frothy in a large bowl.
In a separate bowl mix the sugar, cinnamon and salt.
Add pecans to the egg white mixture and toss to coat. Add the sugar mix and toss until the nuts are evenly coated. Spread the nuts on the prepared pan.
Bake for one hour, stirring every fifteen minutes.
Try to refrain from eating them all until your visitors arrive. They make a great little gift packed in a small jar, like the one below that I gave to Jim.
