Using Dressers All Over The House

I love a good dresser and I have a hard time passing them up when I find them in a thrift shop. Which is probably why I currently have six of them sitting here waiting for a makeover. Yes, six. #furniture addict

I think dressers are the most underused and under appreciated pieces of furniture because we tend to confine them to the bedroom. Which is really a shame because they come in a zillion different and can be easily updated with a couple of coats of paint. And because they’re so perfect for hiding clutter and extra storage, dressers are a great idea for pretty much any room in the home.

Even the HGTV 2016 Dream Home got in on the action using three dressers for extra storage in the kitchen.

LIVING AREA

We’ve used a dresser as a media center in our living room for the past couple of years and are in the process of doing a new one. Hides a million toys and most of my office supplies.

FOYERS

If you’ve got the space, dressers are perfect in the foyer for hiding all the stuff you’re dragging in and out of the house on a daily basis. I painted this one for the foyer in our last house and it hid our winter gear and extra baby things, including a small diaper bag. I was able to drill a hole in the back for my phone cord so my phone was nicely tucked away in the drawer when it was charging.

The next time you’re at a yard sale or in the thrift shop, snatch that pretty dresser up even if you’ve got a full set of bedroom furniture. You can find the perfect spot for it later 😉

Using dressers around the house. A great way to add style and storage in every room.

Have you used a dresser somewhere other than the bedroom?

  1. I’ve always loved the dresser-as-bathroom-vanity look, but I love some of the other uses you’ve found! Thanks for sharing with Merry Monday!

  2. I love the idea of using one instead of a media center. I want to hang our TV on the wall and am trying to decide if I use a low table or a dresser for the DVD player, DVDs, etc. I guess it will depend on what I can finally find at Goodwill that fits the space. 🙂 #Titus2Tuesday

  3. Thinking out of the box is always helpful for those of us who have moved lots! And a ton of other reasons too. One of my favorite uses was the huge dresser we had that never fit up those German house stairs. Fun ideas for us to incorporate. Thanks. Have a good day.

  4. So many great ideas for dressers, I can only imagine all that wonderful storage space that can be used. I’ve already been watching for used dressers I repaint but you gave me so many more ideas. Thank you! Have a great day, Kelly.

  5. Love these ideas!! My problem is I have trouble finding inexpensive dressers now! I think the trend has caught on with so many that solid wood ones are harder to come by..or I’m just missing them 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!!

  6. All of these dressers are so pretty! I love how you show them in all different rooms… I would love to have a freestanding dresser as a vanity! Thanks for linking up at Welcome Home Wednesdays… I loved your post so much I’m sharing it tomorrow in my Fantastic Finds Round-Up! I can’t wait to see what you share with us next week!

  7. Their gorgeous! I would of loved to have them in my bathrooms. But since we have new granite I don’t think the hubby would agree to chance. I love love the coffee station dresser and the turquoise kitchen island. Beautiful pieces!

  8. Jenna, I love all these examples, especially the dressers used to give a pop of color to a neutral room, so cool. We have a dresser in our kitchen/diningroom. It has drawers in the center that I keep linens in and it has doors on the sides. We use the doors to keep our wine and liquor. When the kids were growing up we installed locks on the doors. Just to be safe, lol! We actually found the piece at Walmart, it was on clearance and it’s perfect, clean lines, all black. We love it. But I would love to find a curvy dresser for the entry way that I could paint robin egg blue. I’m going to have to keep my eye open for garage sales this spring!

  9. These are generally great! The kitchen is a surprising trend, but don’t you feel the one featured as an island looks very awkward with the leg extensions? I like the coffee station best!
