Welcome to 24 Cottonwood Lane and Cottonwood Lane Designs
Jenna is a displaced Southerner living up North, an incurable DIYer, and lover of all things home and online goodness. She is the single foster/grandparent to her two grandsons, both of whom have FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder)
Jenna started blogging about the changes in her home, and subsequent DIY projects after finding herself on a second parental leave and designing two nurseries in less than a year. The blog was developed to share how she went from living single in a city condo to constructing a home around the needs of two little boys with special needs. The picture on the left is probably the last time she had a peaceful vacation before the boys were born. She regrets not drinking more at the time and in the interest of full disclosure no longer looks this young or well rested.
Jenna left her safe (but exhausting) $75K/year + pension job in child protection social work two years ago to take care of her two grandsons whose undiagnosed needs were so high that she was regularly leaving work early or missing days all together to take the boys to appointments and assessments or “manage behaviors”. The day her supervisor talked to her about how she would make up the extra hour when she had been called to pick up her youngest from daycare after he’d been crying for most of the day, she knew she needed to do something different. True story…she had to work from 2-3 AM (well, no one actually asked her to work that specific hour but she’d been up dealing with a toddler issue anyways, so what the hell!) the following morning to make up for leaving the office an hour early. She didn’t actually have any work to do, which didn’t seem to matter to the supervisor. So she logged in to the office server to answer some redundant email replies to prove that she had worked from home. When she realized how ridiculous this was, she left. For good.
This short sighted corporate ridiculousness is what drove Jenna to follow through on starting her own business. She began by working with brands and affiliates to increase her income from the blog before building several other websites. She worked on her previously established small design business on the side but found herself frequently frustrated the lack of product or the price of Canadian suppliers. She’s still trying to figure this one out!
Jenna has been sharing great DIY projects, lifestyle and design ideas, for the past five years and went from never having blogged before to building websites for herself and friends. It was at this point she realized that her passion is in creating beautiful online spaces, helping other bloggers and websites to reach their full potential and enjoy their online presence. The day a friend asked her to help her build her own WordPress site, Jenna knew exactly what she wanted to do with her business.
And just like that (after 5 long years!) she’s ready to launch her own product. At this moment, Jenna is happily locked down and working on blog and website branding style sheets, headers, logos, and other ways to make websites beautiful and functional. The online shop launches April 19, 2017 and she hopes you’ll find everything you need to make your own site lovely and personal. Oh, and by the way, these resources are affordable. Because she knows what starting up is like and how expensive branding can be 😉
This is a personal blog however, this blog occasionally accepts advertising, sponsorships, paid insertions or other forms of compensation. Jenna abides by word of mouth advertising and believes in honesty in relationships and opinions. All sponsored posts or advertising will be clearly labelled as such. Regardless of compensations, Jenna always gives her honest opinions and experiences about topics and products. She can be rather opinionated that way and finds it almost impossible to be dishonest. Really. Jenna likes to keep things real because she writes a blog, not a fairy tale. 😉

She just wants to be sure that she can feed the picky eating children, replace all of the broken lamps, and occasionally buy pretty things.
