Using Dressers All Over The House

I love a good dresser and I have a hard time passing them up when I find them in a thrift shop. Which is probably why I currently have six of them sitting here waiting for a makeover. Yes, six. #furniture addict

I think dressers are the most underused and under appreciated pieces of furniture because we tend to confine them to the bedroom. Which is really a shame because they come in a zillion different and can be easily updated with a couple of coats of paint. And because they’re so perfect for hiding clutter and extra storage, dressers are a great idea for pretty much any room in the home.

Dressers can be used for extra storage throughout the house. Click through to see all the great ideas.

LIVING AREA

We’ve used a dresser as a media center in our living room for the past couple of years and are in the process of doing a new one. Hides a million toys and most of my office supplies.

FOYERS

If you’ve got the space, dressers are perfect in the foyer for hiding all the stuff you’re dragging in and out of the house on a daily basis. I painted this one for the foyer in our last house and it hid our winter gear and extra baby things, including a small diaper bag. I was able to drill a hole in the back for my phone cord so my phone was nicely tucked away in the drawer when it was charging.

The next time you’re at a yard sale or in the thrift shop, snatch that pretty dresser up even if you’ve got a full set of bedroom furniture. You can find the perfect spot for it later 😉

Using dressers around the house. A great way to add style and storage in every room.

Have you used a dresser somewhere other than the bedroom?

Navy and gold vintage end table makeover. The fab furniture flippin contest.

Last month I featured a gorgeous green hutch makeover from Thirty Eighth Street at one of our Best of the Weekend Link Parties. This hutch was part of The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest. Now, I’ve never heard of this sort of contest but my furniture flipping heart started to beat a little faster with each word I read. Basically, the contest runs monthly with a different sponsor and prize for furniture flipping lovers (like me!!). Hello? What could be more fun?? You can bet your sweet you know what that I signed up on the spot.  Details about how to become involved are at the bottom of this post if you get excited by furniture makeovers and want to participate, too.

Fab Furniture Flippin Contest

This month Evey from Evey’s Creations and Lynn from Fern Avenue are hosting the contest and all of the contestants will be linking their projects up on their blogs.

This month’s contest is sponsored by HomeRight and y’all know how much I love my paint sprayer and everything else HomeRight these days. And since they were so cool about sponsoring a giveaway for us last month and all, I’m kind of a big fan.

Home Right Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest October

This month’s theme is “Spray It Pretty”.  You can see why I jumped at the chance since I’ve been known to spray paint pretty much anything and everything. In this case, I had a go at a couple of end tables that have been sitting in my garage forever.  (Which meant dirty and dusty).

After a good cleaning with some tsp, they got a quick coat of primer. I used my HomeRight Paint Sprayer for both the primer and the finish for this project (Which meant quick and easy).

The primer dries really quickly when applied with the sprayer.

24 Cottonwood Lane Vintage End Table Before

I decided to go in a different direction this time by using a semi-gloss finish in my favorite Naval from Sherwin Williams.

I have used semi-glosses in the past but the brush and roller marks are usually visible and this bothers my perfectionist self. Big time. I haven’t used a semi or high gloss with the paint sprayer and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. The first coat gave me some cause to panic as it wasn’t covering as well as with a regular eggshell finish.

But by the second coat, I was doing my typical happy dance that I always do when I’ve used my paint sprayer. In the picture below, the table had just been sprayed with a second coat and was nice and shiny. The semi-gloss finish took a little longer to dry than I’m used to. Once it was dry however, the paint levelled out beautifully.

Once everything had dried, I brought the tables inside for a coat of gold spray paint. I may have forgotten to tape off the bottom of the furniture before spray painting which meant I had a few touch ups to do.

The handles were given the same splash of gold spray paint as the legs.

As always, the sprayer left a totally professional finish. No brush marks, no splotchy spots…just perfection.

Here’s the end result! So pleased 🙂

I’m going to try to contain myself but I’m so seriously thrilled with how these end tables turned out that I got a little picture happy.

Inspired By You- Weekend Features #9

Good Sunday morning, y’all. Hope you’re having a lovely and relaxing weekend wherever you are.

I can’t help but notice all of the fall and Halloween posts that are out already. So not ready for that so I’m skipping right over those until September. Summer might be flying by but it’s still summer. The end.

We had another busy week over here as I try to purge and de-clutter. I managed to get rid of nine black garbage bags this week. Four of those were filled with expired food from the fridge and pantry. I felt sick at the waste of it all. 🙁

We also got plans for our playroom rolling and it’s almost completed. Hurray for a toy free living space!

Inspired By You- Weekend Features #8

Another week has slipped on by and I’m nowhere near having all my summer projects completed. And we’ve only been to the trailer twice this year! Mostly because of all the rain this summer and the amount of screaming the boys do. Trapped in a tin can with a couple of screamers = momma needs to up her meds. I know we’re going to have to sell the trailer before we move but I keep holding out for good weather and better behaviour.

We did get around to trying out some summer salads this week. Total success with the boys.

And I finally told the story of our future move down south and why I need to fill in some blank walls.

Got a glass of something yummy? Kick back and check out our weekly features by these talented bloggers.
